Did you know that Berlin was long a haven for villainous overlords and their shady underworld henchmen? This was a city that tolerated prostitution rings and crime syndicates, with a police force on the take. Extreme wealth and extreme poverty were fertile soil for a thriving parallel universe no noir movie could imagine. See where the serial killer Carl Grossmann disposed of his victims, the gentleman-gangster Sass brothers broke into banks and how, in the middle of this mayhem, Commissioner Ernst Gennat invented the idea of a homicide unit and the now-standard concept of the cordoned-off crime scene. Not recommended for the young or the squeamish.
